Ellipsoid Technology (Pty) Ltd

Ellipsoid Technology (Pty) Ltd is jointly owned by the CSIR and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), and is the excluslive licence holder for a micro-encapsulation technology developed by the CSIR’s Polymers & Composites group.  The micro-encapsulation technology involves encapsulation of sensitive actives (such as probiotic bacteria, vaccines, proteins, DNA, etc.) using supercritical carbon dioxide as processing medium. The encapsulation process is low temperature (35 degrees C), solvent-less, water-free and oxygen-free. The encapsulation process has been proven to prolong shelf-life of probiotic bacteria, and also showed improved survival through simulated gastrointestinal fluids.
