Leading with life-saving equipment for miners

About half a million noseclips, developed by the CSIR, are now used by miners around the world. This is one of numerous inventions that flowed from the improvement of life-saving breathing protection devices.  Self-contained self-rescuers enable mineworkers to escape from irrespirable atmosphere underground. The CSIR also designed a new mouthpiece that is more comfortable and does not irritate or stimulate the sublingual saliva glands. Miners can also verbally communicate while wearing the mouthpiece.
